Are You Ready to Make the Vegetarian Choice?

Filed under: Vegetarian Lifestyle — Gail @ 5:12 pm

After becoming a vegetarian many people report “feeling better” and having more energy with the diet change. Your daily dietary intake should include vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and whole grains in order to maximize your intake of the necessary vitamins, minerals and nutrients your body needs to thrive. You should eat a variety of foods each day to ensure you receive enough amino acids to build protein, calcium, vitamins and minerals.

Becoming a vegetarian is a choice. Everyday you chose your diet, exercise, stress levels and work patterns. Sometimes we think they are chosen for us but it’s just not the case. We choose. Becoming a vegetarian is a continuum effect. It’s never that you are or you aren’t but rather how much of a vegetarian are you?

Controlled by Your Hormones?

Your menstrual cycle is controlled by the production and release of hormones in your body. This cycle begins at the start of bleeding and is counted until the 1st day of the following cycle. It is NOT the end of one cycle to the beginning of the next as many women believe.

You will normally have between 25 and 35 days in this cycle of hormone production, release and control. During this time an egg is produced, the lining of the uterus builds and your body prepares for the potential of a pregnancy.

Who is Your Fitness Trainer?

Filed under: Fitness — Gail @ 2:07 pm

More and more people are recognizing the positive health effects of exercise and a healthier diet.  However, in today’s fast paced life it is harder and harder for people do the research and find the correct program to meet their goals.  Enter the fitness trainer.  Fitness trainers will improve your motivation, increase your likelihood of success and help you stay on track with your goals.

There is a method to find a fitness trainer who will work well with your planned goals. Your first step is to look for a trainer who has an educational background in fitness training.  The International Health, Raquet and Sports Club Association (IHRSA) recommends accreditation through an independent agency for all schools and programs that graduate personal fitness trainers.  Although this doesn’t rule out poor trainers, it does help to weed out the weak programs.

Fitness Programs to Consider

Filed under: Fitness — Gail @ 12:11 pm

Once you have determined your goals and figured out what program you are going to use you should come to the realization that this is a lifetime commitment. Not that you can’t change fitness programs but that fitness itself is a lifetime effort. You should never put your health on the back burner.

A fitness program will fail unless you are prepared to put your heart into working through a program and staying committed to your health. Because it is so easy to work or give up a workout for another commitment you should schedule a time each day that you commit to and don’t break. Once your workout becomes important to your feeling of well-being you’ll find that you don’t want to break that schedule and you’ll find the time to work in a fitness program on a daily basis.

Remember to focus on your own abilities and don’t focus on the other guy. Working out in a gym will often give you a false impression of what your improvements are since you will be tempted to compare yourself to the ultra-marathoner on the treadmill next to you or Mr. Universe on the weights.

The Center for Disease Control lists the top five causes of death as heart disease, cancer, stroke, chronic lower respiratory disease and accidents. Except for accidents the risk for all these causes can be significantly lowered with a lifetime of health and fitness.

Fitness Equipment

Filed under: Fitness — Gail @ 1:27 pm

Fitness equipment is designed to work your muscles against resistance or weight.  These are muscles that you may not otherwise be able to exercise if you did not have a piece of equipment.  In today’s fast-paced world we all need to find as many ways of doing double duty as possible.

Fitness equipment is also meant to get you into shape faster, with less effort and showing greater results than if you try to isolate muscles on your own.  The equipment allows you to improve your fitness at a more intense level while be able to pick the equipment that best meets your needs and goals.  This way your level of fitness improves quickly and with less stress.

Doctors and researchers know that exercise increases your metabolism and improves your success rate at losing weight.  Through exercise you can also increase your muscle mass which in turn burns more calories.  Increasing muscle mass also improves your overall self-confidence and reduces your risk of developing osteoporosis.  Exercise increases your energy level, improves your health and decreases your cholesterol.

And when exercise does all of this-the question isn’t IF you should exercise but HOW.

You might be interested in a specific sports and improving your fitness in order to increase your performance or you may be interested in just “working out”.  Whatever your path the type of fitness equipment you choose must factor into your lifestyle and the particular regimen that is your exercise routine.

Fitness equipment has to fit your particular goals today as well as how you anticipate you may grow in the future.  Purchasing a piece of equipment that meets your goals today may be shortsighted, so take a strong look at where you may want to improve as you grow older.  You also need to consider where in the house you will use it and if it must meet a sports specific workout.

Do Low Calorie Diets Really work?

Filed under: Weight Loss — George Clark @ 7:31 pm

With low-calorie foods you create a low metabolic rate in the body which can leave you feeling sick and tired.  These extremely low energy levels can make getting through the normal workday daunting, and forget about exercising all together.     This is the number one reason I would advise you to steer clear of a low-calorie meal plan.

Why Is It So Hard To Stop Smoking

Filed under: Addiction — BarryLutz @ 1:58 pm

Think of why you started smoking. You were young and invincible, regardless of all the information you never thought of the long term effects – and you always figured you could quit whenever you wanted to. Or you thought smoking made you look cool, made your look older, made you look more sophisticated – or go figure, someone you looked up to smoked and you wanted to be like them. And then you heard people who smoked talking about the good side of smoking, how it relaxed them or how it helped them lose weight. Whatever the case, you started, you got hooked, and now you can’t stop.
