How to Approach 2018 (and Any Other Year)

New Year’s Resolutions abound this time of year and are soon forgotten. How about a New Year’s Resolution that truly means something and will change your life starting right Now?
I find that all Truths are simple, but not always easy to implement. This New Year’s resolution requires us to be good stewards of our thoughts and attention. Are you ready for a True change???

The Resolution is simply this: Choose each day what you will serve. Do you serve the Light or do you serve darkness? Choose where you focus your attention and where you focus your thoughts in each moment. We have two choices, and two choices alone, in every moment: to serve the Light and our true spiritual self or to serve darkness and our false self. There is no third option. Another way of saying this with a religious metaphor is that we have one of two Masters in every moment, God or the Devil. Connecting to Truth and Light is the only thing that heals and transforms us.

On a day where all goes as planned, it is easy to serve the Light and to be grateful.
Who do you serve when something unwanted shows up in your day? Who do you serve when you feel ill, when something happens that you don’t like or when something happens that you didn’t plan for that day? How can you turn each moment into an opportunity to learn something? What story have you just made up about your day and how it is supposed to go? All of these questions serve to help you be in the Present Moment in a state of conscious awareness. “Conscious awareness” is a foreign land for many of us and it takes daily practice to get there and even more practice to stay there!

We often mistake having an intense emotion about something with meaning that we are “right.” We believe that if we feel something intensely about a situation that we must be right and correct in our feelings and in our perceptions of the event. This is far from true. The feelings are real, but we are not having them because we are right! One of the reasons we have strong emotions is because we were just unknowingly triggered by something, in the present day, that pulled us back to a previous time zone and previous trauma. We didn’t even see it coming! Another reason we have strong emotions is when we are highly identified with something or its outcome. We are afraid it may be taken away and we believe our “happiness” depends upon it. So, we have a strong emotion as a form of self-protection (which is only protection of the false self anyway).

We believe that having an idea, in advance, about how the day is supposed to go, makes us more secure. The opposite is True. The more we insist on our “plan” for the day and how it all goes, the unhappier we will be because the day rarely, if ever, follows our imagination. If nothing is new there is no need for awareness, no need for consciousness and no need for transformation.

Wayne Dyer said, “Everything you need is on its way.” How do you know when IT shows up? Are you so engaged in unconscious automatic patterns or attachment to how the day is supposed to go that you don’t notice the gifts waiting for you from the Divine at your front door? I.E., are you so disengaged from Present Moment awareness and stuck in your imagination that you don’t notice?

Life is about movement and change, all the way down to the cellular level. We are either in a process of transformation or regression, growth and healing or fear and dis-ease. There is no such thing as standing still. You are moving towards the Light or the dark in every moment.

Which Master will you serve in 2018?

  1. 1/6/18-Great message about the Light on this Epiphany Day! (As is said in some faith circles, “That’ll preach!) You are right to invite people to the presence of Truth and Power. Divine guidance is always at the ready if we have a heart and spirit to see. God seeks to bless us daily! May the star of Bethlehem breathe radiance upon you!
