Can’t Figure it Out?

When you want to create a change in your life or figure out how to proceed in a confusing or frustrating situation, your brain can be your worst enemy. Trying to figure out how to proceed with our brain, ironically is not the most effective strategy. The most potent way to create change is to feel, not think.

Close your eyes and imagine how you would feel if the change was accomplished. Create the reality internally and every time you are confused or frustrated that it has not occurred, whether it’s losing weight, improving health or getting a job you want, feel as if it has occurred. Focus on what you want, not on what you don’t want. Feel the happiness, internal peace, and exuberance for life that you would experience as the new you if the change occurred. Each day, sit quietly for 15 minutes and feel yourself as if the change had occurred.

I still remember in high school driver’s education class (ha, that was a long time ago!) when the teacher said that if you are attempting to drive through a narrow space, don’t focus on the barriers on the side that you don’t want to hit, which is often our natural reaction, but rather focus on the road ahead where you want to go. Then you will naturally go there; and you will go without the stress of trying so hard to miss the sides of the barrier.

This is a beautiful model for life in general. Our thinking minds are so limited. Let the innate abilities within take over. The creativity of a human mind is actually quite limited. You’ll often be astounded by how the change comes about.

Think of creating a change like a balance – you need to have more input or energy towards the goal than what exists in the undesired state you are currently experiencing. A refreshing side benefit is that inner doubt transforms to belief in possibility.

“Feeling it” can sound trite, but give it a try and notice how your world of frustration and impatience lightens up! Notice how you feel more empowered in your life and life becomes more what brings you joy and satisfaction.
