How to Know If You Need Support for Your Brain

Hi, I’m Doctor Dave Kirkpatrick. I’m here to talk about Quantum Techniques, the most comprehensive form of energy medicine available today. You can access it by phone. You don’t have to come to a practitioner. All you have to do is pick up the phone, go to our website, and you’ll see who the practitioners are and that’s the way you could access this incredibly powerful tool.

I talked to the previous youtube about the importance of a regular check up for the brain. So I’d like to spend just a few minutes today giving you some ideas of very simple things you can do to get a sense of whether something is off in the brain, whether you’re losing function. We’re all, as we get older, maybe searching a little longer for memory, searching a little longer for words. Some of that’s natural, some of it isn’t. And so how do you tell the difference?

In fact the great fear is Alzheimer’s disease. And it’s been shown that you can detect some signs of it as much as 15 to 18 years in advance in a [inaudible 00:01:22] diagnosis. So it really is important to find out how things are going for you.

Just to list a few of the things that you can do for yourself, you can go online. If you go to a therapist testing for Alzheimer’s, they will use usually the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, the MoCA Test. And you can access that online and have a friend help you and take that yourself. That’s really testing for fairly severe stage of dementia.

Another is the Self-Administered Gerocognitive Exam from Ohio State. They actually list four different samples of the test. Again, many of the questions will only show up problems at a fairly advanced stage.

So what can you do to just see if something is going wrong at an early stage? One of the simplest tests is the process of standing on one leg. Try standing on one leg with your eyes open and usually that’s not too hard. Then try doing it with your eyes closed. And try it on both legs. And if you can’t maintain your balance to a count of five, you have the beginnings of mental impairment. It’s a simple thing you can do regularly in your home and that would give you a clue as to whether or not this is an area that you should be concerned about.

From the published tests there are a couple of things that are easy enough for you to do. One is repeating back numbers in reverse. In other words, have someone read one number, say one, you repeat back one. Then one and three and you repeat back three and one. One, three, four, your repeat back four, three, one. And so it goes. Most people should be able to retain the reverse of up to seven numbers. And if you can’t do that, maybe with one or two mistakes, but if you can’t do that, then that’s again a clear indication that something is amiss.

One of the standard tests is to start out with choosing five words. The MoCA Test, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment uses the words face, velvet, church, daisy and red. So have someone give you five words. Then engage in conversation and have them chose the words so that you don’t memorize them in advance. But then have a conversation for five minutes and at the end of that see if you can remember what does five words were, after your focus of attention has been totally elsewhere. Again, that’s a little bit more demanding, but that will show early stages of impairment.

So if any of these things cause concern for you, feel free to contact us at Quantum Techniques. You can access me through the website. And I’d be delighted to talk to you more to see the various things that through common techniques we can do to assess where the impairment is, to suggest approaches to turning that round. And to definitely preserve your mental functioning into later life.
