If most of us look at the world today, we would agree there are enough resources available to provide food, water, and shelter for every human living today. Most agree that if we shared what we have, and gave to all mankind as if they were family, wars would cease and abundance would flow.
If I ask, are there enough resources existing today, to care for all the humans, plants and animal for the next 200 years? The answer would be “Of course not!” The light from the sun for next year has not arrived, although it is already on its way; the rains for next years crops has not fallen, although it is already on its way; the pollen to fertilize the crops 5 years from now has not yet been produced, and the bees to carry it do not exist even as eggs. And we all relax in accepting the movement of the Divine, that everything we need is already on its way.
What then happens to this thinking when I move from providing for all to just taking care of myself, the American way? 99% of America has enough food, water, and shelter for today. All of this fear being driven by the media hasn’t made that go away. Most again agree that within America, there is enough for all of us for today.
Then our thinking goes crazy with our ego driven fear. We don’t feel there will be enough for us in the future. Even when we live the proof that the Divine has cared for us every day of our existence, we don’t emotionally live the abundance and peace of the moment. We live in fear and hoard “stuff”, having enough for today isn’t enough. To be “safe” and “serene” I need to know I have enough “stuff”, that I can see how to make it all happen in my own strength and wisdom, not only for today, but for every day until I die, and then more “stuff” left over to take care of my kids and grand-kids! What insanity. Like the sun’s rays that haven’t gotten here yet, or next years rain, or the pollen needed 5 years from now, everything we need is already on its way, as it has always been. Not only that, but because of constant exposure to terrible things on the news, I must “feel” I have enough resources to handle the worse case scenarios my mind can think up.
Thank goodness we have the media. They are able to help me stay in my fear and terror. When I can’t think of any more terrible reasons to hoard stuff, they share fears and catastrophes that I can’t even imagine on my own. What a crazy world we live in! I believe in the paraphrased scripture, “Sufficient therein is the crap of the day.” Most of us have enough to deal with each day, and can choose to do so in gratitude, love, and harmony with our world. It is senseless to go into the worst future we can imagine (with the help of the media), and drag our exhausted bodies with us.
Instead, start your day with gratitude. Find someone to give to with no expectations of reward. As Gandhi has stated, “Be the change you want to see in the world”. In this way we recreate our lives, health, and planet.
